Sioen sends much-needed materials to quake-hit area in Croatia

On December 29, 2020, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck central Croatia, killing at least 7 people. Sioen has sent 10 000 m2 of watertight PVC fabric that will be used to cover damaged houses and to protect livestock.

The earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 destroyed Petrinja, Glina, Sisak and surrounding villages. One of our sales managers, Tatjana Petek, lives 80 km from that area and she also felt the earth shake strongly. The earthquake lasted multiple minutes and could be felt in 12 different countries. A day earlier, the area had already suffered a 5.2 earthquake that was followed by several aftershakes.

Emergency services are doing everything in their possibility to help. The situation, however, remains extremely difficult, as homes and farms have collapsed or no longer have roofs. Sioen is helping people during the cold and wet weather conditions to cover damaged houses and to protect livestock.

We have sent 10 000 m² of watertight PVC fabric that will go directly to the most affected area. Tatjana Petek, our area sales manager who witnessed the natural disaster, will personally meet the truck at the border and she will escort it to the place of unloading.

We wish to express our support to everyone affected by this tragedy and hope for a swift recovery.
