Dewforge: woven fabric made from SRPP
“At TechTextil, we’ll be showcasing the new product Dewforge”, Group Sales Director Jean-Claude Abed says. “The DewForge fabric has been designed and developed as an answer to the increasing demand for lightweight cost-effective composites. It is a woven fabric made from self-reinforcing polypropylene (SRPP). The fabric is lightweight, has a good impact strength and is cost-effective. It can easily be moulded into the desired shape. The fabric doesn’t need to be layered, which reduces the processing cost, as it is less labour-intensive and it reduces the heat transfer. This versatile material serves a multitude of industries, ranging from the automotive industry over luggage to protective helmets and body armours for sports and ballistics. Automotive examples are lightweight paneling and aerodynamic deflectors, while roller and carry cases are examples of the luggage industry.”

James Dewhurst's plants in the US and England, along with Veranneman Technical Textiles in Belgium, are among the world's largest manufacturers of flexible reinforcement textiles. We offer three production processes:

• Woven textiles: these fabrics can be used for various applications, such as lightweight conveyor belts or filtration (such as teabags). Polyester, glass and nylon are the most common yarn types.
• Coated scrims: These fabrics are coated after weaving and are typically used in building and construction (such as PVC-coated roofing membranes and swimming pool applications), but also in bird nets, safety nets, industrial fencing, stable construction and sun screens.
• Laid scrims: Weft yarns are laid across a bottom warp sheet and then trapped with a top warp sheet. The entire structure is then coated with an adhesive to bond the warp and weft sheets together to form a strong construction. The vast majority of products are related to building and construction, such as filtration, but they are also used in medical wipes, protective clothing and hospital gowns.
